GREENER IS LAUNCHING IN 2022!
What’s greener?

Hint - it's not recycling, or even going vegan.

Ahhh humans. You’ve got to love us. We tend to get things very wrong when it comes to which actions we think are most impactful in addressing climate change.

Ahhh humans. You’ve got to love us. We tend to get things very wrong when it comes to which actions we think are most impactful in addressing climate change.

In a global survey, it was found that 6 out of 10 people think that recycling in the best way to tackle their carbon footprint, followed by buying renewable energy and owning an electric car. But the reality is very different!

For people living in wealthy countries like Australia, here’s the list of actions, in order of importance, that take a lighter toll on the climate.

  1. Having one less child

This makes sense right!? One more person = one more of everything else. We’re not here to tell you to put a cap on your procreation. So, let’s see what else we can do.

  1. Not owning a car

Standard petrol cars are fossil fuel burning machines. One of the best things we can do is walk, cycle, or take the train. Or you know... just stay cozy on the couch in our PJs.

  1. Avoiding one long-distance flight.

Most of us can put a sad green tick next to this one.

  1. Buy renewable energy

There are so many great options for green home energy. Check out Diamond Energy, Powershop or Amber.

  1. Replacing a regular car with an electric vehicle

While not owning a car at all is still better, an electric vehicle is a greener option if you do need to drive.

  1. Eating a plant-based diet

Whether you’re a veggie lover or a meat addict, everyone can make a difference by making some simple swaps each week. Have you tried a beyond burger yet?

  1. Recycling everything you can

Recycling is imperfect – but important. When stuff gets made out of recycled materials, it means we need to pull less raw materials out of the earth in the first place.

  1. Hang drying clothes instead of using the dryer

Tricky in Winter.. But come summer, we’ll be making the most of warmer days to dry our clothes outside.

  1. Swapping old light-bulbs to LED

LED bulbs have been the poster child of reducing climate impact. It’s still important! But the impact is in grams of carbon, not tonnes. Since it’s at the bottom of the list, it’s important to look at what other changes we can make.

So what does all this mean?

Knowledge is power. When we know what makes the biggest difference, we can decide where to direct our energy.

On the Greener app, we recommend green stores and remove the carbon of every purchase, at no cost to you. It's the simplest way to do your bit to end climate change.
